The Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005-2015 is an unprecedented political commitment by European governments to improve the socio-economic status and social inclusion of Roma. The Decade is an international initiative that brings together governments, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations, as well as Romani civil society, to accelerate progress toward improving the welfare of Roma and to review such progress in a transparent and quantifiable way.
This guide pretends to contribute to improving the educational situation of
Roma across Europe by engaging Roma parents more actively. To this end,
the project has created from a transnational perspective, a practical methodological guide to help professionals working on the ground to involve
Roma families in the educational processes of their children.
When Gypsies go to school they encounter many basic differences between family models and those offered at school. This represents a series of difficulties apart from those already apparent in the learning process.
